King of hearts

Among other things, the year 2020 brought an unexpected appointment with my veterinarian. My heart horse, King, was showing subtle lameness on & off. After 2 vet appointments, nerve block, and radiographs, our world was turned upside down with one simple word: Navicular. Advised to keep him as comfortable as possible with medication, not ride anymore, move to a facility with flat land only, and ultimately prepare myself to make a difficult decision in the near future, what I thought was a simple lameness exam became rather complicated.

Treatment options including daily medication, expensive injections, and costly metal shoeing packages promised to make the condition less painful, but would not cure it. Treating the symptoms, not the condition was not the option I wanted for him.

Determined to learn everything I could about Navicular, I found myself deep diving into new research and progress in the hoof care industry. Little did I know where it would lead us…

Study after study, article after article. A condition once thought to be career and even life ending for horses had been further studied and proven to no longer be so. In fact, the barefoot method for rehabilitation of navicular horses was pioneering through the world of hoof care.

Today

Rehabilitated and back to riding sound and comfortable. No expensive metal shoes, injections, or costly medication.

Comfort. Nutrition. Balance. Movement.

What started as a fear of losing my horse, grew into a complete passion for hoof care, hoof rehabilitation, and an opportunity to help other horses and owners like us. We had our share of set backs and not every step was easy, but I am forever thankful for the journey.

If I can use this career to help just one duo like us, it’ll all be worth it.

A life long horse lover and owner, my philosophy for hoof care focuses on the comfort of the whole horse through a balanced trim, proper heel first movement, and the affects of nutrition. The foundation for understanding overall health and nutritional balance lies with my degree in Animal Science from University of Georgia.

A proud graduate and Certified Practitioner of Ida Hammer’s Applied Whole Horse Hoof Care Program, I enjoy taking advantage of every continuing education opportunity available and learning all the ways we can help our horses.

My trim style is based on Ida Hammer’s Whole Horse approach to Hoof Care, Pete Ramey Hoof Rehab, and Daisy Bicking School of Integrative Hoofcare.
