EXPLORING THE EQUINE HOOF

A comprehensive introduction to the anatomy and physiology of the hoof. The inner structures of the distal limb and what affects them.

This class uses preserved cadaver specimens and discusses navicular (early signs, prevention, rehabilitation), laminitis, founder, white line disease, thrush, club feet, and various other pathologies and conditions affecting hooves.

Beginner Trimming

A hands on class for those starting out in hoof trimming or those interested in further understanding the thought and approach behind a proper barefoot trim.

Class includes an anatomy review, hoof mark up and mapping for internal structures, and guided trimming of your own cadaver hoof. Safety and proper tool handling will also be a focus. Class will close with a distal limb dissection.

A list of recommended tools will be provided following registration. Extras may be available for use during class.

Intermediate Trimming

For those looking to advance their skills and knowledge in equine hoof care. Students will trim cadavers with more advanced pathology, without the guidance. Trims will then be discussed with the class as you verbalize your process and what your plan would be moving forward.

The second portion of class will focus on ergonomic positions to keep yourself and the horse safe and comfortable during trims.

Students attending this course are recommended to have their own set of trimming tools.
